Overview

Kalo is a calorie and nutrition tracking app. We built it to help you understand what you eat, not to harvest your data. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We never will.

Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to make the app work and improve over time.

Account information: your name and email address, provided through Apple Sign In or Google Sign In. We never see your Apple or Google password.

Food and nutrition data: meals, calorie entries, macro logs, and water intake you record in the app. This data lives in your account and is used only to display your progress to you.

Health goals and preferences: your calorie target, macro goals, fasting schedule, and unit preferences.

Device and usage data: app version, device type, OS version, and crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics. This helps us fix bugs and improve performance.

Food images: photos you take for AI analysis are sent to Google Gemini for processing. Images are not stored after analysis is complete.

How We Use Your Information

To provide the app's core functionality: logging, tracking, and showing your nutrition data.

To improve AI food recognition accuracy over time using aggregated, anonymised correction data.

To send you notification reminders you opt into (daily log reminders, weekly recap). You can disable these at any time in Settings.

To process your subscription through Apple's App Store. We do not handle payment details directly. Apple manages all billing.

To diagnose crashes and technical issues.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Firebase servers. Firebase is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.

We do not store sensitive data on your device. Authentication tokens are managed by the Apple and Google SDKs following their respective secure storage guidelines.

Third-Party Services

Kalo uses the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy.

Google Firebase: authentication, database, analytics, crash reporting.

Google Gemini: AI food image analysis. Images are processed and not retained.

Apple StoreKit: subscription billing and management.

Flinku: referral link tracking and deep linking.

We do not use advertising SDKs or data brokers of any kind.

Your Rights

Access all data we hold about you: tap Export Data in the app's Profile screen.

Delete your account and all associated data: tap Delete Account in Profile settings. Deletion is permanent and processed within 30 days.

Opt out of non-essential notifications at any time via the Notifications toggle in the app.

Children's Privacy

Kalo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of Kalo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
